Cucumbers to the rescue!!!

The Amazing Cucumber This information was in The New York Times several weeks ago as part of their "Spotlight on the Home" series that highlighted creative and fanciful ways to solve common problems.
1. Cucumbers contain most of the vitamins you need every day, just one cucumber contains Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium and Zinc.

2. Feeling tired in the afternoon, put down the caffeinated soda and pick up a cucumber.  Cucumbers are a good source of B Vitamins and Carbohydrates that can provide that quick pick-me-up that can last for hours.

3. Tired of your bathroom mirror fogging up after a shower?  Try rubbing a cucumber slice along the mirror, it will eliminate the fog and provide a soothing, spa-like fragrance.

4. Are grubs and slugs ruining your planting beds?  Place a few slices in a small pie tin and your garden will be free of pests all season long.  The chemicals in the cucumber react with the aluminum to give off a scent undetectable to humans but drive garden pests crazy and make them flee the area.

5. Looking for a fast and easy way to remove cellulite before going out or to the pool?  Try rubbing a slice or two of cucumbers along your problem area for a few minutes, the phytochemicals in the cucumber cause the collagen in your skin to tighten, firming up the outer layer and reducing the visibility of cellulite.  Works great on wrinkles too!!!

6. Want to avoid a hangover or terrible headache?  Eat a few cucumber slices before going to bed and wake up refreshed and headache free. Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes to replenish essential nutrients the body lost, keeping everything in equilibrium, avoiding both a hangover and headache!!

7. Looking to fight off that afternoon or evening snacking binge? Cucumbers have been used for centuries and often used by European trappers, traders and explores for quick meals to thwart off starvation.

8. Have an important meeting or job interview and you realize that you don't have enough time to polish your shoes?  Rub a freshly cut cucumber over the shoe, its chemicals will provide a quick and durable shine that not only looks great but also repels water.

9. Out of WD 40 and need to fix a squeaky hinge?  Take a cucumber slice and rub it along the problematic hinge, and voila, the squeak is gone!

10. Stressed out and don't have time for massage, facial or visit to the spa?  Cut up an entire cucumber and place it in a boiling pot of water, the chemicals and nutrients from the cucumber with react with the boiling water and be released in the steam, creating a soothing, relaxing aroma that has been shown the reduce stress in new mothers and college students during final exams.

11. Just finish a business lunch and realize you don't have gum or mints?  Take a slice of cucumber and press it to the roof of your mouth with your tongue for 30 seconds to eliminate bad breath, the phytochemcials will kill the bacteria in your mouth responsible for causing bad breath.

12. Looking for a 'green' way to clean your faucets, sinks or stainless steel?  Take a slice of cucumber and rub it on the surface you want to clean, not only will it remove years of tarnish and bring back the shine, but is won't leave streaks and won't harm you fingers or fingernails while you clean.

13. Using a pen and made a mistake?  Take the outside of the cucumber and slowly use it to erase the pen writing, also works great on crayons and markers that the kids have used to decorate the walls!!

Random fact:

If there's one thing I can't stand, it's to be lectured on my grammar. Just sayin'.

Valentino Rossi Took 9th World Champion as Casey Stoner Won Malaysian GP

Casey Stoner grabbed his second win in succession today with a display of absolute dominance in torrential condition at Sepang, where his Ducati Marlboro team-mate Nicky Hayden picked up a fantastic fifth place. A heavy tropical downpour just moments before the MotoGP riders were due to take to the track for the penultimate round of the 20009 season saw the race delayed by 36 minutes, but once the lights went out Stoner proved once again that he is a master of any condition. After taking the lead on the first lap the Australian opened up an advantage of almost four seconds by the end of the second circulation – increasing it lap by lap to over 17 seconds at one point as he stormed to his fourth victory of the season, becoming the first rider ever to win at Sepang from the second row of the grid.

Valentino Rossi 2009 MotoGP World Champion
Valentino Rossi made yet another case for the claim that he is the Greatest Roadracer of all time by taking his 9th World Champion title and 7th Premier class crown today after finishing third, behind Dani Pedrosa who put in a valiant effort in second and looked in danger of being passed by his teammate Andrea Dovizioso before he crashed out at 2/3rds distance.

Nicky Hayden also produced an excellent demonstration of wet weather riding as he guided his Desmosedici GP9 to fifth place from seventh on the grid. The American was involved in a series of breathtaking battles throughout the 22-lap affair, passing Loris Capirossi and Toni Elias with his trademark style and determination and fighting to hold off title contenders Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo. One round remaining at Valencia in two weeks’ time, when Stoner and Hayden will look to be amongst the front runners once again.

Taking a leave of absence here for awhile. I'm spending way too much time in the blogosphere, and I need a break. I really need to re-assess my priorities, and not spend so much time on the computer as I have been. I know I've said this before and came back the next day, but I think it's different this time. Problem is I've been in cyberspace for so long, I've sort of lost touch with reality and the rest of the world. Too much of a good thing, I'm afraid. I do, however, have a couple of posts that I did awhile back that are scheduled to automatically show in the next few weeks. I'll miss you all, you're what made this whole thing worthwhile.

Financial Planning ... Keep it to your Self

Dan was a single guy living at home with his father and working in the family business.
When he found out he was going to inherit a fortune when his sickly father died, he decided he needed a wife with which to share his fortune.
One evening at an investment meeting he spotted the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.
Her natural beauty took his breath away. 'I may look like just an ordinary man,' he said to her, but in just a few years, my father will die, and I'll inherit $20 million.'
Impressed, the woman obtained his business card and three months later, she became his stepmother.
Women are so much better at financial planning than men.

VERY IMPORTANT FACT from your Financial Advisor!!

Abu Dhabi Air Crew Crashes New A380

Anyone know if this story is True...???

There seems to be news blackout on this.

This brand spanking  new Airbus 340-600, the largest passenger airplane ever  built, sits just outside its hangar in Toulouse ,   France without a  single hour of airtime.

Enter the Arab flight  crew of Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies ( ADAT ) on 15th November 2007, to conduct  pre-delivery tests on the  ground, such  as engine run-ups prior to  delivery to Etihad Airways in Abu  Dhabi  .
The ADAT crew taxied the  A340-600 to the run-up area.

Then they took all Four engines to takeoff power with  a virtually empty aircraft. Not having Read the  run-up
manuals, they had no clue just how light an  empty A340-600 Really  is.

The takeoff warning horn  was blaring away in the  cockpit  because they had All 4 engines at full  power.
The aircraft computers  thought they were trying to take off, but it had not been  configured properly (flaps/slats, etc..)

Then one of the ADAT crew decided to pull the circuit breaker on the Ground Proximity Sensor to silence the  alarm. This fools the aircraft into thinking it is in the  air.

The computers automatically released all the  Brakes and set the aircraft rocketing  forward.
The ADAT crew had no  idea that this is a  safety feature so that pilots can't  land with the brakes on.

Not one member of the seven-man Arab crew was smart  enough to throttle  back the engines  from their max power  setting, so the $200 million brand-new Aircraft crashed into a  blast
barrier, totaling it.

The extent of injuries to the crew is unknown due to the news blackout in the major media in France and elsewhere.

Finally, the photos are starting to leak out.

A French Airbus:  $200 million dollars
Untrained Arab Flight Crew:  $300,000 Yearly Salary

Unread Operating Manual: $300

Unexpected find:

I found the above ad when I did a search for "makeout vans"... (hey I'm running out of ideas here). I'm not sure as to the date of the ad, but I'm guessing somewhere between '68 and '72. I love the artwork in this one, it's like some glorious acid trip (um, I've never done acid, btw. For the record)....

Space Invaders:

In 1977, after we were all bored to tears with Pong (how lame was that), we were introduced to Space Invaders. This took off like wildfire. I, myself, didn't care for S.I., but I was definitely in the minority. I'm not sure if the screen shot on the lower right was the arcade version, I think it might have been the Atari home version, but basically it was the same.
S.I. was okay, but it didn't even come close to PacMan, but that's just me....

Virginia Slims:

In the 70's these ads were everywhere. Mostly I'd see them in the TV Guide we used to get every week (usually on the back cover), but also in mags and even as posters on the sides of the stores that sold cigs. They really used Women's Lib to their advantage on these ads, although, come to think of it, none of the women in our family ever smoked Virginia Slims. Mom was a marlboro gal, my aunts smoked some other brand, Gram was a Winston chick, and our next door neighbor loved her Camel non-filters (yuck). Nevertheless, this was probably one of the most successful ad campaigns of all time.

Three Consecutive Victories for Casey Stoner at Aussie MotoGP

Casey Stoner finished 1.935 seconds ahead of championship leader Valentino Rossi on Sunday to win for the third straight year at Phillip Island. Spaniard Dani Pedrosa finished third, while Rossi's Yamaha teammate, Jorge Lorenzo crashed out of the race, after tangling with American Nicky Hayden on the first lap.

Casey Stoner, celebrating his 24th birthday this weekend, started on pole position and led from start to finish, showing no sign of the mysterious illness that sidelined him for three races prior to his comeback in Portugal on October 4th, where he finished second.

Casey Stoner wins Australian GP
"The whole team's done a fantastic job," Stoner said after the race. "We spent those three races away to fix myself up. It's definitely a big step from what we were in the middle of the season. It's nice to be able to fight for victories. Even if I didn't win today, I'd have had a ball."

Valentino Rossi's second place finish gives him a virtual stranglehold on another world title, putting him 38 points ahead of his nearest rival Jorge Lorenzo. Two rounds of the world championship remain - Malaysia and Valencia - with a maximum of 50 points available.

I was just thinking about:

The old Bounty commercials, with Nancy Walker as Rosie, set in Rosie's Diner. Of course, that was the decade of women's liberation, so it's only natural Rosie owned the diner instead of just being a waitress. I remember how she'd wet the towel and put heavy things on it to show how strong it was. And also her Bounty towels would pick up the mess that the other inferior towels would leave behind because they weren't as absorbant. I'm not sure if Nancy's still alive or not. If she is, she'd have to be, like, 100 years old by now....

Lincoln Park

Anyone who grew up near the Dartmouth, MA, area, in the early to mid-70's (when Amusement Parks had reached the height of popularity), will remember Lincoln Park. I haven't been there since around '77, but it was a great place to go. I always looked forward to it. It was always busy there. I loved the monster ride and the coaster. Once i rode the tilt-a-wheel 7 times and got so sick. There's a ton of more pics I could've posted, but if you do an image search for Lincoln Park Dartmouth you'll see alot more. Sadly L.P. is no longer in existance. Its day is long gone.Click pic for larger image.

When I was about 7, my folks got me fish. I asked for a dog, and they got me fish. I hated those fish. You can't play with fish. Eventually I wore my folks down, and they got me a dog. A beagle, who, btw, seemed very "inter-bred", if you know what I mean. Total nuts. To this day I have no recollection about what happened to those fish.
On a side-note, I always imagined fish feeling like the fish in the above comic. Life in a fishtank, how monotonous...

Just how big a show was "All In The Family", in 1973???

In the early 70's (probably through '74), it was tv-show suicide to be scheduled opposite All In The Family (just as it was, 5 years ago, for any program to be scheduled opposite "American Idol"). There had never been a show, in the history of television, that hit the raw nerve of America the way that A.I.T.F. did. Some people literally changed their plans so they could be home to watch this show. It changed television programming almost overnight. Only a handful of other shows could make this claim. The importance of All In The Family in television history cannot be overstated.

Fashion Model Heidi Klum Changes Last Name to Samuel

Heidi Klum biography :

Heidi Klum has been a regular model for Victoria's Secret since 1997 and for Sports Illustrated since 1998. She has appeared in a number of movies and television shows, and in 2004, she began hosting her own show, fashion Project Runway. Heidi is the epitome of what it means to be a supermodel; that's probably why she has become one of the most recognizable and highest-paid models in the world.

Heidi Klum

German supermodel Heidi Klum, who is recognized on the catwalk, in campaigns and on television for the last 10 years, has changed her last name. The 36-year-old decided to take the surname of her musician husband Seal, whose full name is Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adeola Samuel. She will now become Heidi Klum Samuel.

Heidi’s reason behind the name change is because she thinks the name Heidi Klum is too German for America. This is kind of a weird reason, as she will keep the name Klum for work, like when hosting reality show “Project Runway”. However, she noted that she filed the paperwork for the name change already with a court in Los Angeles.

Heidi Klum

A super model Heidi and Seal got married on a Mexican beach in 2005 and have had two sons together. Currently she is pregnant with her fourth child, which is her third with Seal, and she is due any time now. There were even rumors that she was in labor this week, but those turned out to be a false alarm. She also has a 5-year-old daughter, Helene (aka Leni), from her previous relationship with Flavio Briatore.

It’s so great to see model celebrity marriages work out like this one has, as they seem to have the hardest time making them work with all the pressure from media. Also recently, Sarah Michelle Gellar took her husband Freddie Prinze Jr.’s surname, becoming Sarah Michelle Prinze.

Meanwhile, fans of fashion “Project Runway” continue to tune in to the show, which was taped earlier this year. In the most recent episode, Irina Shabayeva won the chance to design a holiday dress for International Concepts, which will be sold for $139 on macy’ Plus, Louise Black was cut from the competition.

Hey it just wasn't my thing..

My folks took me to the zoo a few times. But to be honest I never cared for the Zoo. Now that I think of it, I have no idea why they took me either, because neither one of them liked zoos (come to think of it, neither one of them even seemed to like animals, actually).
I can still smell the monkey section, btw, even after 30 years....

Even the Ducati Marlboro rider is very optimistic about getting at podium in the next race that would take place at his hometown. The Australian Grand Prix will be held in Phillip Island circuit on October 18.

The 2007 MotoGP world champion's confidence gets higher after finished at second place in Estoril at Portuguese GP last Sunday. MotoGP Paddock Girls at Estoril go hmmm...

and more...

Jorge Lorenzo Won Portuguese GP

Jorge Lorenzo finished fastest and won Portugal MotoGP while Casey Stoner produced a stunning comeback ride to finish second. Starting the race from pole position, Lorenzo regain the lead after losing it to Dani Pedrosa and was unchallenged to the flag. Lorenzo's victory reduces the gap to championship leader Valentino Rossi's points to 18 points. The Italian could only finish fourth.

Jorge Lorenzo in Estoril Portuguese GP
Stoner, who has missed the last three races due to an illness, was second despite breaking a foot rest. The Australian has spent the last two months back home undergoing tests after complaining of exhaustion and has been unable to train for five months.

"I had so many critics, saying that it was all in my head," the 23-year-old Ducati rider said. "I never felt so bad in my life. To come back like this is a really good start for us. I had the strength to overtake people and I was ready for the fight."

Lorenzo, however, never looked in trouble after getting back past Pedrosa early on. It is the Spaniard's fourth victory of the season and reduces Rossi's lead with just three races of the season to go.

Jorge Lorenzo Portuguese GP

"I was very confident before the race," said the Fiat Yamaha rider. "I was fastest in every practice session. It's fantastic and is almost the perfect race."

Jorge Lorenzo Claimed Estoril Pole

Jorge Lorenzo, Valentino Rossi’s toughest competitor in gaining 2009 MotoGP world champion title, claimed pole position in Potugal Grand Prix qualifying at Estoril yesterday. This accomplishment would be essential for Lorenzo to win the MotoGP race today. The race would not be easy though since Rossi will start from second place right behind Lorenzo. Their fight to be the best at Estoril GP would be the main attraction many anticipate.

Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo are at the same team, Fiat Yamaha, yet they put their selves into rivalry in this season MotoGP championship. With four series to go – including Portugal GP – Rossi is at the top of riders’ championship with 237 points. Lorenzo, who just began his MotoGP race last year, is at second with 207 points. Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa and Ducati’s Casey Stoner – will start at third place – still have the chance to stop Rossi from winning the 2009 MotoGP championship. Yet both of them have very large gap at collecting points with the Italian.

Hey Mister tambourine man:

"Then take me disappearin' through the smoke rings of my mind, Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves, The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach, Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow. Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free, Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands, With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves. Let me forget about today until tomorrow."

Ben Spies to Join Tech 3 Yamaha in 2010 MotoGP

Yamaha Motor Company, Ltd has confirmed Ben Spies will be joining Tech 3 Yamaha Team for the MotoGP Championship in 2010. Spies is currently second in the World Superbike Championship.

Ben Spies recently signed a two-year deal with Yamaha, which originally planned for him to remain in World Superbike for one more year before moving to MotoGP in 2011, but Spies and Yamaha together have decided to advance the move by one year. The 25-year-old Texan is currently just three points behind and has just two more World Superbike rounds to contest in his efforts to win his and Yamaha’s first World Superbike title.

Ben Spies
“I want to thank Yamaha globally for their faith in me,” said Spies. “They have treated me like royalty. Yamaha just recently allowed me to rethink my contract for 2010-2011; I did sign for WSB for 2010 but after Indy I began thinking of the competition and my age versus waiting until 2011.

"This was not an easy decision. The Yamaha World Superbike Team crew and especially Massimo (Maio) Meregalli have been fantastic and it’s been great fun to put in a season together. I am hoping that I can give Maio, Laurens Klein Koerkamp and everyone else a championship to remember this year with me. My thanks also extend to ‘Infront’, the promoter of the WSB series, especially Paolo Ciabatti. I have enjoyed his series and this first year racing in Europe.

Ben Spies
"Herve Poncharal at Tech 3 is showing his support by allowing me to come on board with my crew chief Tom Houseworth and Gregory Wood, my mechanic, who have both been with me since AMA days. We will have learning curves to overcome next year but I am up for the new goal. I hope to have a good year and my goal is to try and stay in the top 6-8 which, given the talented line up, will be a tall order. With the world upside down, there is one constant for me and that's Yamaha.”

Lin Jarvis, Managing Director of Yamaha Motor Racing, said “Following the announcement of Ben’s two year deal with Yamaha one month ago, he has reassessed his options and decided that he would like to move to MotoGP sooner rather than later. Yamaha has considered his request and together with Tech 3 we were able to find a way to make it happen. Ben has done a fantastic job in his rookie season in World Superbike and we are very excited to now be welcoming him into our MotoGP program sooner than we originally expected. We believe that Ben will be a fast learner next season and a strong future championship contender."
