"Memories may be beautiful and yet, what's too painful to remember, we simply choose to forget"...

Okay, so everything about the 70's wasn't so great. I defy anyone to wear these clothes today. The Doctor thinks these'll come back in style someday... God help us all.

Lorenzo Took US MotoGP Victory after Rossi and Pedrosa Crashed

Jorge Lorenzo took victory at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix to cut Valentino Rossi's championship lead to 25 points as Rossi crashed and failed to finish on Sunday's race. Lorenzo, who did not finish in the last two MotoGP races, came home nine seconds ahead of Alex de Angelis in second with home favourite Ducati rider Nicky Hayden in third.

Unlucky for Dani Pedrosa, he set the early pace before crashing his bike on lap four, leaving Rossi and Lorenzo to battle for the lead. Two laps later, the Spainard had gone ahead when the Italian also crashed and out of the race.

Dani Pedrosa did superbly to come back and finish in 10th place, and Britain's James Toseland boosted his chance of earning a new contract with the Tech 3 Yamaha team by equalling his career-best sixth place finish. With five races of the season left, Jorge Lorenzo has cut Rossi's championship lead to just one win's-worth of points.

For my 700th post, I thought I'd do something a little different...

You Are Western

You see yourself as an individual - and you're driven to be as successful and happy as possible.

You know you only have one life, so you want to live it as well as you possibly can.

You see life as a service. You believing in serving yourself, your family, your friends, and even the world.

You believe that one person can change the world, and you'd like that person to be you.

Dani Pedrosa Pole Position at US MotoGP

Dani Pedrosa took the pole position on Red Bull Indianapolis MotoGP this Sunday evening at Indianapolis by half a second and finished a second faster than Valentino Rossi's existing qualifying record. Pedrosa was the only rider to finish below the 1'40s barrier, lapping at 1'39.730 while Jorge Lorenzo secured second place and Rossi third with his very last lap after pitting to top up his fork oil with just a handful of minutes left.

Valentino Rossi's lap was just good enough to bump Gresini Honda's Alex De Angelis onto the second row of the grid but there was only 11 one-thousandths of a second between the Italian pairing. Monster Yamaha's Colin Edwards ended up fifth despite a crash with ten minutes to go while countryman Nicky Hayden was just behind the Texan by a little over a tenth.

Remember Fish??

I watched Fish. I admit it. I liked it too. I have an uncle who looks more and more like him as my uncle gets older. Of course, I wouldn't have mentioned it if he reads my blog, mind you..
I can picture my dog saying that...

BEST SPORTBIKE 2009 Kawasaki ZX-6R

Kawasaki ZX-6R awarded best sportbike 2009,Kawasaki ZX-6R best 2009 car award
Costly (to the OEMs) updates to the 600s arrive every two years in a never-ending quest to one-up their rivals. And it's for these reasons why the ZX-6R is so redoubtable. Kawasaki has built a motor that handily out-guns its 600cc rivals, but just as impressive is a 22-lb lighter machine that handles like a champ, aided by Showa's fabulous new Big Piston Fork. Doubly impressive is that the Ninja took top honors on both the street and track – no mean feat. Triumph's Daytona 675 gives the ZX a run for its money, but among four-cylinder middleweights, the nasty and nimble Ninja stands clearly at the top of this ultra-competitive heap.

Best of 2009 - Motorcycles of the YearTriumph street triple

Motorcycle of the Year , Triumph Street Triple R become the best motorcycle in 2009
the Street Triple R was introduced just last year, replete with the Daytona’s up-spec fully adjustable suspension and potent radial-mount Nissin brake calipers, alleviating all of our concerns. The result is an invigorating and versatile roadster that stickers for less than $10K. Lofting the front wheel is a snap, and before you know it you’ll be drifting out the back end like an inspired Brit hooligan. And on your favorite twisty back road, its friendly yet potent character is almost unbeatable, proving that no one really needs triple-digit horsepower peaks. Now that Triumph perfected the Street in our eyes, it became the perfect Standard. And it's our favorite motorcycle of 2009.

Mt. Airy Fashion Teen Wins Casting National Model

The local aspiring model struck the winning pose at Willow Grove Park’s casting call When 17-year-old Shakia Anderson’s father passed away in March, she considered abandoning her dreams of becoming a model. However, after hearing of Garage’s “Model Search 2009 — It Could Be You” casting call at Willow Grove Park in April, she decided to try for her dad. “I always knew he wanted me to follow my dreams,” said Anderson in a statement released last week.

Anderson’s father would have been proud, as the lucky Mt. Airy teen was chosen out of 1,000 girls across six states to be featured in the glamorous model 2009 holiday advertising campaign for Garage, a popular clothing retailer for fashion-conscious teenage girls. She will be whisked away on an all-expenses-paid trip to the glitz and glam of the Garage holiday photo shoot in September, and will receive a $1,500 Garage wardrobe featuring their signature trendy celeb-casual looks.

young modelsAt the Willow Grove Park casting call, Garage judges were impressed by Anderson’s charming and outgoing personality, confidence and comfort in front of the camera, still photographs, and passion for fashion. She was initially selected as one of 10 finalists — one from each U.S. Garage location — and then declared the national model search winner after an in-store vote from peers, Garage shoppers and the Garage Selection Committee.

“Modeling has been my number one goal in life since I was younger,” Anderson said during her casting call interview.

She has walked the runway in a handful of local fashion shows, and recently graduated from Acerella Studio’s Youth model and fashion Program in April. Anderson frequently shops at Willow Grove Park searching for fashion trends to complement her natural stylishness and to help her stand out in a crowd.

Anderson was previously a student at the New Media Technology Charter School in Philadelphia, and plans to complete her senior year at Cheltenham High School in Wyncote. In the future, she hopes to follow in Tyra Banks’ footsteps, by becoming a high fashion model and helping less fortunate people.

I'm a bit on edge, and have had sort of a "short fuse" today.

In the 70's, they didn't just hire beautiful people for commercials. Everyone had a shot at it.
Even that guy...

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

I was just thinking:

About how, once in awhile, Mary Ann would make one of her famous Coconut Cream Pies. But where did she get the cream. She was on a desert island...

I give my dog people food (aside from his dry dog food). I figure, no matter what he eats, he's still only going to live 15 years or so, so let him enjoy life a little. He's had: meatloaf, boiled dinner, stuffed shells, stuffed peppers, pizza, sometimes a cheeseburger at McDonald's or Burger King, ice cream, whipped cream .... he's had it all.
Also, I live on 51 acres and my dog's free to roam at will, unleashed.
My brother has a purebread, so he only gets dry dogfood. No people food. And he's in a small yard surrounded by an electric fence...
I've always felt that if you're a dog, you get what you get.
Would that suck or what...

When art imitates life:

My instincts didn't serve me very well in math either, I'm afraid, although unlike Hobbes, I knew it.

For the record:

I was never this stubborn as a child. Of course my folks might disagree, but they're wrong.
Btw, the dad yelling at the kid cracks me up. I don't know why..

That kid's got my bike....

The above picture isn't me, but I had the exact same bike. I also typed in "1974", so the above pic was taken just about the time I had my bike (without the training wheels). It even had the number 4 between the handlebars, but I took it off. He even looks my age. That bike could ride over anything. It was probably one of the first mountain bikes I know of. Those were the days..

Bike license plates / cereal premiums:

Lately I was thinking about the license plates we used to get in cereal boxes, for our bikes. They were metal plates. With painted enamel colors. These were quality items. I doubt they still make these, or anything close. I think I had Oklahoma.. but still it looked pretty good on my bike.

Hmmmm, nope. Sorry, no clue:

I've seen quite a few of the old Capn Crunch commercials, and I don't remember this chick at all..

.... was a pretty good show. I watched it in '76 / '77. I was surprised it didn't last longer. It had a good cast and it was a funny show for its day. The episodes where Joe and Rhoda were getting divorced didn't aire too long after my own folks split up. Divorce was still pretty taboo back then. I knew a few people that were bummed out the show was cancelled .........

Jorge Lorenzo to Ride Ducati in 2010

Ducati has allegedly handed Fiat Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo a very generous monetary offer to ride for the Bologna team for the next two seasons, replacing the ill and questionable Casey Stoner. Reliable sources are now stating that Lorenzo and Marlboro/Ducati have come to a basic agreement, and that a deal could be announced at the Indianapolis GP.

The deal between Jorge Lorenzo and Marlboro has been agreed to in principle, with the finer details of the contract still being ironed out, Spanish paper, Motocuatro, reported. They also report that the figures being floated around would make Jorge Lorenzo the second highest paid rider in MotoGP, right behind current teammate Valentino Rossi.
